It Is Never Too Late

By Beryl Comar

Do you know what the greatest tragedy in the world is? It’s all the people who never find out what it is that they really want, or what they are really good at. It’s all the people who become what they think other people will accept. The people who could be really great musicians but then choose to become accountants instead, because that’s the family tradition, and they grow old and die with their music still locked inside them. It’s all the people who never discover or use their talents never getting to know what they can really be.

I read an inspiring story in today’s FRIDAY magazine about a man whose dream was to graduate, and he did it while homeless and in his forties. We all have within us treasures of such great value that when discovered they will allow you to have whatever you want in life. But merely discovering them is not enough, you have to put them to work.

The greatest discovery of all time is that you can change your life by changing your thoughts. It is never too late to be what you might have been, to become who you want to be. No it is never too late, while you can never go back and create a new beginning it is never too late to begin to create a new ending. It is exciting to realize that each one of us, every day, has the opportunity to create the beginning of a new self. The self we want to be.

But that is impossible, you say, you just do not understand my circumstances. You are right, I don’t, they are your circumstances. But this I do know; your circumstances may not be in your control, but your attitude is. It's not what happens to you that is important it is how you deal with what happens to you that is important.

Every person forms his/her own estimate of him/herself and that estimate determines what s/he becomes. You can do no more than you believe you can. You can be no more than you believe you are. If you really do put a low value upon yourself, rest assured that the world will not raise the price!

Compare your potential to the time that Arabs landed in the sand of Arabia, nothing was known of the vast riches that lay undiscovered beneath the sands. You also have vast undiscovered potential, in terms of what you are capable of what you now call excellence is not even mediocrity.

People don’t usually lack resources they just lack control over their resources. The real handicap in life is lack of ambition or desire, lethargy, irresponsibility and a failure to recognize your own greatness. If you do not go within you will go without. Until you recognize your own worth, until you change the image you have of yourself, until you remove your self imposed limitations, until you put your talents to work, you will never achieve the greatness of which you are capable. When I lost the use of my right hand I thought it the end of the world ... for a while. Then I got myself up, dusted myself down, and started all. over again, just like when. I fell off my bike when I was a kid, I decided to not allow it to be the end of the world. “I can handle whatever life hands me, just one hand at a time” And I have.

You were engineered for success - You were designed for achievement - You ARE endowed with the seeds of greatness. So plunge into life, stride boldly, think no timid thoughts. Dare to dream big dreams. Dare to be someone who makes a difference. Dare to become all you are capable of being. Dare to make the most of your life. Because "It is never too late to be what you might have been or still want to be."
